A Very Good first (and only) printing. Flexibound in handsome bronze embossed floral papers. Heavy foxing to the endpapers, but very little to the book block, which is of sturdier stock. Speckle red stained edges. Some interior staining but largely clean and soundly bound. In Italian. 160 pages. 6” x 8”.
Here is the first description of the artwork found within the summer palace of Duke Francesco I d'Este in Sassuolo, to whom the book is dedicated and who restored the medieval castle to its current state in 1630. The baroque structure became renowned for its beauty, as well as the frescoes and art contained within.
