A US Army-issued map of the southern tip of Bougainville Island, which was occupied by Japan during WWII and the starting place of the Allies’ campaign to retake the Solomon Islands in 1943.
The map includes Shortland Island and Mono Island to the south. Civil structures like railroads and powerlines are included in addition to military outposts.
