November 22nd, 1963, likely seared into the minds of a certain generation, is the day John F. Kennedy was shot. Wendell Berry’s poem November Twenty Six Nineteen Hundred Sixty Three, commemorating the national mood in the days after the assassination, first appeared in The Nation that year.
Published by George Braziller in 1964 and illustrated and lettered by artist Ben Shahn (1898–1969), the poem appears here in a handsome clothbound edition.
