The Mad King appeared in book form for the first time in 1936. The setting is a fictional European country, Lutha, before WWI. The major plot point involves an American descendent of a royal exile who just so happens to look exactly like the king of Lutha.
Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875–1950) was a prolific writer of adventure books and most notably the creator of Tarzan. The illustrated cover is by Boris Vallejo (1941– ), a Peruvian-American painter who came to be known for his contributions to the pulp fiction/fantasy genres.
