The Monster Men first appeared in book form in 1929. The first Ace paperback edition was issued in 1963. It is a science fiction story in which the protagonist, Arthur Maxon, is determined to grow the perfect human creature in a lab, all while his failed experiments exist as grotesque humanoids.
Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875–1950) was a prolific writer of adventure books and most notably the creator of Tarzan. The illustrated cover is by Frank Frazetta (1928–2010) whose work graced the covers of many pulp paperbacks and comic books. His was a defining aesthetic for the science fiction, adventure, and fantasy genres.
